How to Apply to Pre-K / Kindergarten

We welcome your interest in Colorado Academy and look forward to getting to know you and your family. If you are interested in the 2018-2019 school year, the first step to starting the process is to call 303-914-2513 to arrange for a campus tour.

Apply Now for the 2018-2019 school year!  Please note: there is no application fee to apply to CA.

Please note: several independent schools in the Denver metro area use the same service (SchoolAdmin) for their secure application portals.  The schools do not share any information between portals; however, once you create an account for one school's portal, your web browser may remember that site and try to redirect you to it when you click on the link to our portal.  If this happens, simply change the web address back to https://coloradoacademy.schooladminonline.com/portal.  If your browser continues to redirect you, our recommendation is to clear your browser cache or to use a different browser.

Admission Checklist & Timeline

List of 8 items.

  • APPLICATION FORM

Apply Now for the 2018-2019 school year!  Our initial application form for the 2018-2019 school year takes approximately ten minutes to complete, and the deadline is at least one week prior to an applicant's class visit.  There is no application fee.

Please also note that separate forms are required for admission and financial aid, though the application cycles overlap. For more information regarding the financial aid process, please click here.
  • PARENT STATEMENT | BEFORE FEB 10

As parents, you can provide us with insights about your child and your family that no one else can. Your statement will help us learn about your child and your family more personally.

Please note that the Parent Statement Form is available to you once you submit the initial student application form.
  • PARENT TOUR/MEETING | BEFORE FEB 10

Parent Tour and Meeting: For parents new to the school, we encourage you to attend one of the CA Parent Preview Days on October 25 or November 3 from 8:30-11:15 am.  Alternatively, a parent tour and meeting may be scheduled the same day as the student visit. The Parent Tour/Meeting can typically be scheduled at 8:30 am, 9:30 am, or 1:30 pm. Please allow for an hour and 45 minutes.

Parent Meeting Only: For parents familiar with CA (e.g., current CA parent, attended Parent Preview, or toured in the past), no additional tour is required. Please allow 40 minutes for the meeting with an admission counselor.

Please contact Paige Siemers at 303-914-2513 to schedule.

Families applying to more than one division (i.e., Lower, Middle or Upper School), please contact the Admission Office at 303-914-2513 to arrange a multi-divisional parent interview and visits for your students.

  • STUDENT VISIT | BEFORE FEB 10

Applicant Playgroups are comprised of approximately 10-15 applicants and last 90 minutes. Some developmental/readiness assessment takes place, yet the focus is on having fun and getting to know the applicant. Please note that applicants to Pre-K must turn 4 by September 1, 2018; applicants to Kindergarten must turn 5 by September 1, 2018.

Pre-K Playgroup Visit Dates: Register HERE; applicant playgroup visits are offered on designated Saturdays and weekdays in December and January.

Kindergarten Playgroup Visit Dates Register HERE; playgroup visits are offered on designated Saturdays and weekdays in December and January.
  • TEACHER RECOMMENDATION | BEFORE FEB 10

Please send recommendation/transcript requests to the appropriate faculty/staff at your child’s school.  CA accepts recommendations completed through the online application portal.  This is our preferred method for receiving recommendation forms and transcripts and allows for recommendations to be sent electronically, confidentially, and securely.
  • APPLICANT TESTING (Kindergarten only) | BEFORE FEB 10

Colorado Academy requires the following testing for admission:

For Applicants to Pre-Kindergarten: Developmental readiness is assessed by our teachers during the applicant playgroup visit, but no other formal testing is required.

For Applicants to Grades K-5, one of the following tests is required:
    • Differential Ability Scales (DAS), or
    • Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WPPSI for K or WISC for 1-5), or
    • ISEE exam is an option for Grade 5 applicants only; the ISEE may be taken in lieu of cognitive testing.  Register at www.iseetest.org (please see APPLICANT TESTING for Grades 6-12 for more information).
Families may use an evaluator of their own choice and request that the results be sent directly to Colorado Academy, or choose one of the evaluators from the Denver Area Testing Consortium. This testing is a cognitive assessment conducted on a one-to-one basis and is not designed to be a comprehensive evaluation, but rather a screening for admission purposes.   The DATC fee is $170; please call us at 303-914-2513 to request assistance if the fee is a hardship.

  • FINANCIAL AID APPLICATION | BEFORE FEB 15

Separate online forms are required for admission and financial aid, though the application cycles overlap. We recommend starting the Financial Aid process after January 1, and completing the process by February 15, 2018, to be considered in the first round of Financial Aid decisions.
