CA's health team ensures a healthy learning environment for students, faculty, and staff.
We are committed to helping students learn not just academics but also the many aspects of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including good nutrition, daily physical activity, and stress management and reduction.
For your child's health and safety, Colorado Academy contracts for school nursing services with Children’s Hospital Colorado. Through training and supervision by a registered nurse, CA’s onsite Health Assistant administers to the health needs of students. The school Nurse Consultant functions as a liaison between the Children’s Hospital and the school by providing health information and consultation, health care planning, medication training and delegation, and health referrals and resources. The Nurse Consultant assists the school to provide the safest, most appropriate health care within the school setting.
Our Health Assistants are non-medical personnel with First Aid/CPR training, and, under general direction of the school Nurse Consultant, administer to the health needs of the students, perform selected health care responsibilities as delegated by the Consultant Registered Nurse, and provide assistance in the assessment, development, and evaluation of health services. The Health Assistants cover Childcare, Pre-K, Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School health offices.
The health and safety of your children are of paramount concern to us. Please help us by being sure that all health plans, medical forms, and necessary medications have been turned in to the school nurse before the first day of school.
Health forms that are required for attendance at Colorado Academy should be completed online via our Magnus Health Portal, which can be found on the Parent Resource page.
Kelli Bernier, RN, BSN, is the Colorado Academy Health Team's Nurse Consultant. She is affiliated with the School Health Program at Children’s Hospital Colorado. In addition to her credentials as a Registered Nurse with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, she also holds AE-C certification, meaning she is Asthma Educator-Certified.
Holly Clapp has a BS in Science with a minor in Psychology. At CA, she considers herself a member of a “team of health care providers,” but her focus is on the needs of Middle and Upper School students.
Kisa graduated from Colorado Mesa University with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and immediately went to work at a Grand Junction, Colo., hospital where she helped patients needing surgery. As you would expect, many of those in her care were patients with COVID-19, giving Kisa first-hand and deep knowledge of what it takes to address the pandemic. She recently moved to Denver and worked as a registered nurse case manager, helping to provide disease management of pediatric patients, as well as adults. She is looking forward to bringing comfort and care to our students. She will promote positive health practices as well as be available to address the illnesses and injuries that often find their way to our health offices.
