How to Apply to Middle School
Grades 6 through 8

We welcome your interest in Colorado Academy and look forward to getting to know you and your family. If you are interested in the 2018-2019 school year, the first step to starting the process is to call 303-914-2513 to arrange for a campus tour.  Or else, you can Apply Now for the 2018-2019 school year!  Please note: there is no application fee to apply to CA.

Our campus is full of energy and excitement over the summer—with students composing music, programming robots, juggling and unicycling, rock climbing, swimming, throwing clay, immersing themselves in Spanish  or Chinese, writing poetry, playing sports, problem solving, performing, making friends, and having fun.

The CA Admission Office is open every weekday over the summer. If you have questions about our school or curriculum, we invite you to drop by our office in Welborn House for answers. We also invite you to explore the campus with us during our Summer Tours at 9:00 AM on the following days:

Thursday, June 14
Tuesday, June 19
Thursday, June 28

Tuesday, July 10
Thursday, July 19
Tuesday, July 24
Tuesday, July 31

No RSVP is necessary. Simply come to the Admission Office at 9:00 AM. If you do want to let us know you're coming, you are welcome to email Paige Siemers.

Admission Checklist & Timeline

List of 9 items.

  • APPLICATION FORM

Apply Now for the 2018-2019 school year.  Our initial application form for the 2018-2019 school year takes approximately ten minutes to complete, and the deadline is at least one week prior to an applicant's class visit.  There is no application fee.

Please also note that separate forms are required for admission and financial aid, though the application cycles overlap. For more information regarding the financial aid process, please click here.
  • PARENT STATEMENT

    Parent/Guardian Statement
As parents, you can provide us with insights about the applicant that no one else can. Your statement will help us learn about your child and your family more personally.

Please note that the Parent Statement Form is available to you once you submit the initial student application form.
  • PARENT TOUR/MEETING

    Parent Tour and Meeting
A parent tour and interview may be scheduled the same day as the student visit. Parent interview/meeting can typically be scheduled at 8:30 AM, 9:30 AM or 11:15 AM.  Please allow for an hour and 45 minutes.

    Parent Meeting Only
For parents familiar with CA (e.g., current CA parent, attended Parent Preview, or toured in the past). Parent meeting may be scheduled for 8:30 AM or 12:15 PM. No additional tour is required. Please allow for 40 minutes.

Please contact Paige Siemers at 303-914-2513 to schedule.

Families applying to more than one division (i.e., Lower, Middle or Upper School), please contact the Admission Office at 303-914-2513 to arrange a multi-divisional parent interview and visits for your students.

  • STUDENT VISIT

The Middle School Student Visit is designed to give applicants a "Day in the Life of CA" experience.  Applicants attend classes and eat lunch with a current CA student as well as interview with a teacher. Visit days may be scheduled on most days that CA is in session. Application form must be submitted at least one week prior to the visit, or before December 15, whichever comes first.

6th grade applicants have the option to visit with their peers in the 5th grade from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., which includes a tour of the Middle School, OR visit with a 6th grade student in the Middle School from 8:30 AM-1:00 PM

7th and 8th grade applicants visit with their peers in the Middle School from 8:30 AM-1:00 PM.

Please contact Paige Siemers at 303-914-2513 to schedule. You will receive an email confirming your scheduled day which outlines the details of the visit.

Families applying to more than one division (i.e., Lower, Middle or Upper School), please contact the Admission Office at 303-914-2513 to arrange a multi-divisional parent interview and visits for your students.
  • RECOMMENDATIONS & TRANSCRIPTS

Recommendation Forms and the Transcript Request Form are available to you once you submit the student's initial application form.  Please send requests to the appropriate faculty/staff at your child’s school.  The online application portal is our preferred method for receiving recommendation forms and transcripts and allows recommendations to be sent electronically, confidentially, and securely.

    • Current Math Teacher Recommendation
    • Current Principal/Counselor Recommendation
    • Transcripts from Current and Previous School Year
    • Optional Coach Recommendation

  • OPTIONAL STUDENT VIDEO

Student Video Submission (Optional for Applicants to Grades 6-12)

To the applicant:  Please prepare a short video about yourself, and address one of the prompts below.  The Admission Committee prefers a video that is less than two minutes and under 200 megabytes.  Videos can be funny or serious; the goal is to allow your personality to emerge.  Thank you, and have fun!
    • Share a story about an act of kindness or an act of courage that you have witnessed sometime in the last year.
    • Tell us how a friend, classmate, sibling, grandparent or cousin would describe your personality and what they most value about you as a person.  Feel free to interview family members about why you might be a good fit at CA.
    • Demonstrate a special talent or skill of which you are proud.
There is an upload feature within the online application portal where you may post your video. Please call us at 303-914-2516 with any questions.
  • FINANCIAL AID APPLICATION

Separate online forms are required for admission and financial aid, though the application cycles overlap. We recommend starting the Financial Aid process after January 1, and completing the process by February 15, 2018, to be considered in the first round of Financial Aid decisions.  Families applying after the February 15 deadline will be considered for the Financial Aid waitlist.
