Colorado Academy's experienced safety and security team is friendly and vigilant. They ask all members of the community to work together to keep CA safe for everyone.
CA has many measures in place to ensure the safety and security of our students, faculty and staff, and families. Our expert security team is a constant, visible presence on campus, and they continually assess and make enhancements to safeguard our community.
Vehicle decals and parent badges
Parents and guardians will need to display a CA decal on their vehicle windshield.
Parents and guardians must wear an ID badge when on campus.
Driving on campus
All drivers must obey the 10-mph speed limit on campus.
Do not text or talk on the phone while driving on campus.
Please use visitor parking. Numbered parking spots are reserved for faculty and staff.

Director of Safety & Security Julia Shoun has been Manager of Security Operations for Jefferson County Schools. She created and developed the safety and security teams, practices, and protocols at 26 Jeffco middle and high schools. She is experienced in providing emergency response training and crisis management. She also has worked for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office in everything from managing a detention operation to field training work. The Jefferson County Sheriff honored her with a Conduct Award, and Jefferson County Schools honored her with an Integrity Award. She holds degrees in Criminology and Criminal Justice with a minor in Political Science from Metropolitan State University and is completing a Master’s in Organizational Leadership through CSU Global.
Miriah Medina joined CA as a campus safety officer in May 2022. She has extensive experience as a law enforcement professional, working most recently as a background investigator and marshal for the Denver County Courts. During her career, Medina has served in varied roles, as a Colorado Department of Corrections Officer, Denver Deputy Sheriff, and a Police Officer in the Boulder Police Department. She has volunteered in shelters for people experiencing homelessness and for literacy projects, served as a community advocate, and was an assistant probation officer in Denver. Medina holds a BA in Social Work from Whittier College in California.
Detective Dave Ollila joined the safety & security team at CA in October 2018 as the night Security Officer. Ollila is a U.S. Army veteran and a career policeman. After serving in Vietnam, he worked for the Chicago Police Department, then worked as a detective on the Arapahoe County Special Crime Attack Team, and later as a patrol officer, field training officer, and detective for the Denver Police Department, retiring in 2004. For more than a decade, he worked as a special agent at the National Insurance Crime Bureau, retiring a second time in 2018. He is recognized in State and Federal Courts as an Expert Witness in the identification of vehicles with altered, obliterated, or changed Vehicle Identification Numbers. He holds a BA in Criminal Justice from Columbia College in Columbia, Mo.
