How to Apply to Lower School
Grades 1 through 5

We welcome your interest in Colorado Academy and look forward to getting to know you and your family. If you are interested in the 2018-2019 school year, the first step to starting the process is to register for one of our Admisison Parent Preview Days:  Wednesday, October 25, or Friday, November 3.  Or else, call 303-914-2513 to arrange for a campus tour.

Apply Now for the 2018-2019 school year!

Please note: several independent schools in the Denver metro area use the same service (SchoolAdmin) for their secure application portals.  The schools do not share any information between portals; however, once you create an account for one school's portal, your web browser may remember that site and try to redirect you to it when you click on the link to our portal.  If this happens, simply change the web address back to https://coloradoacademy.schooladminonline.com/portal.  If your browser continues to redirect you, our recommendation is to clear your browser cache or to use a different browser.

Admission Checklist & Timeline

  • APPLICATION FORM | BEFORE DEC 15

Apply Now for the 2018-2019 school year!  Our initial application form for the 2018-2019 school year takes approximately ten minutes to complete, and the deadline is December 15 (or at least one week prior to an applicant's class visit).  There is no application fee.

Please also note that separate forms are required for admission and financial aid, though the application cycles overlap. For more information regarding the financial aid process, please click here.
  • PARENT STATEMENT | BEFORE DEC 15

As parents, you can provide us with insights about your child and your family that no one else can. Your statement will help us learn about your child and your family more personally.

Please note that the Parent Statement Form is available to you once you submit the initial student application form.
  • PARENT PREVIEW | OCT 25 or NOV 3

We encourage all interested parents to attend one of our Admission Parent Preview Days, our version of an open house and a unique opportunity to see Colorado Academy in action.  Parent Preview features a campus tour and access to our school leadership, classrooms, and current students and parents. On both days, the program begins in the Campus Center and continues as follows:

8:30 AM Opening Remarks from Head of School, Dr. Mike Davis
9:00 AM Campus Tours & Classroom Observations

  • RECOMMENDATIONS/TRANSCRIPTS | BEFORE JAN 31

Please send recommendation/transcript requests to the appropriate faculty/staff at your child’s school.  CA accepts recommendations completed through the online application portal.  This is our preferred method for receiving recommendation forms and transcripts and allows for recommendations to be sent electronically, confidentially, and securely.
    • A recommendation from your child's current teacher
    • Transcripts and School Records from this school year and last school year
    • Optional principal/counselor recommendation

  • APPLICANT TESTING | BEFORE JAN 31

For Applicants to First GradeFirst Grade applicants take the AABL (Admission Assessment for Beginning Learners).  In Denver, there are two schools that offer test dates for the AABL, including Colorado Academy.  All test dates occur in January and have several time slots available, which are reflected on the registration page.  Applicants may take the AABL at either location and request that score reports be sent to specific schools.

    Register HERE for the AABL.
The AABL testing fee is $65; please call us at 303-914-2513 to request a waiver if the registration fee is a hardship.

Out-of-town applicants, or applicants who cannot attend the January AABL test dates, may contact Director of Lower School Admission, Caren Salzer, to discuss other options.

For Applicants to Grades 2-5, one of the following tests is required:
    • Differential Ability Scales (DAS), or
    • Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC), or
    • ISEE exam is an option for Grade 5 applicants only; the ISEE may be taken in lieu of cognitive testing.  Register at www.iseetest.org (please see APPLICANT TESTING for Grades 6-12 for more information).
Families may use an evaluator of their own choice and request that the results be sent directly to Colorado Academy, or choose one of the evaluators from the Denver Area Testing Consortium. This testing is a cognitive assessment conducted on a one-to-one basis and is not designed to be a comprehensive evaluation, but rather a screening for admission purposes.   The DATC fee is $170; please call us at 303-914-2513 to request assistance if the fee is a hardship.

  • FINANCIAL AID APPLICATION | BEFORE FEB 15

Separate online forms are required for admission and financial aid, though the application cycles overlap. We recommend starting the Financial Aid process after January 1, and completing the process by February 15, 2018, to be considered in the first round of Financial Aid decisions.
