How to Apply to Upper School
Grades 9 through 12

We welcome your interest in Colorado Academy and look forward to getting to know you and your family. If you are interested in the 2018-2019 school year, the first step to starting the process is to call 303-914-2513 to arrange for a campus tour.

There is so much to see on CA's campus in the Spring: whether it's the Pre-K Festival, the All-School Art Show, senior music recitals, Middle School capstone projects, third grade poetry readings, the fifth grade rocket launch, post-season tennis soccer, baseball, golf and lacrosse games, the Upper School musical, Giant Relay Day...and more!  The Admission Office is offering "Drop-In Tours" on the following days:

9:00 AM on Tuesday, May 1, 2018
9:00 AM on Thursday, May 10, 2018

There's no need to RSVP but, if you do want to let us know you're coming, you are welcome to email Paige Siemers.

Admission Checklist & Timeline

List of 9 items.

  • APPLICATION FORM

Apply Now for the 2018-2019 school year.  Our initial application form for the 2018-2019 school year takes approximately ten minutes to complete, and the deadline is at least one week prior to an applicant's class visit.  There is no application fee.

Please also note that separate forms are required for admission and financial aid, though the application cycles overlap. For more information regarding the financial aid process, please click here.
  • PARENT STATEMENT

    Parent/Guardian Statement
As parents, you can provide us with insights about the applicant that no one else can. Your statement will help us learn about your child and your family more personally.

Please note that the Parent Statement Form is available to you once you submit the initial student application form.
  • PARENT TOUR/MEETING

Parent Meeting and Tour: Required for parents new to the school.
You are invited to attend one of the CA Parent Preview Days on October 25 or November 3 from 8:30-11:15 am.  Alternatively, a tour and meeting may be scheduled for the same day as the student visit.  Parents who attend Parent Preview only need to schedule a parent meeting on the student visit day.

Parent Meeting Only:  For parents familiar with CA (e.g., current CA parent, attending Parent Preview, or toured in the past). An interview may be scheduled in the morning or afternoon depending upon the day. No additional tour is required.

Please contact Lisa Dean at 303-914-2516  to schedule.

Parent meetings take approximately 40 minutes and may be combined with a campus tour.  They may also be scheduled for the same day as the student visit.  Please complete the Parent Meeting and Tour no later than January 31.

Families applying to more than one division (i.e., Lower, Middle or Upper School), please contact the Admission Office at 303-914-2513 to arrange a multi-divisional parent interview and visits for your students.

  • STUDENT SHADOW DAY

The Upper School student shadow day is designed to give applicants a "Day in the Life of CA" experience.  Applicants attend classes with a current CA student, eat lunch in the dining hall, tour the campus, and interview with a faculty member.

Once you schedule an appointment, you will receive an email outlining the details of the visit. The Online Application Form must be submitted at least one week prior to the visit, or by December 15, whichever comes first.  Please complete the Student Shadow Day no later than January 31.

Please contact Lisa Dean for more information about a shadow day.

Families applying to more than one division (i.e., Lower, Middle or Upper School), please contact the Admission Office at 303-914-2513 to arrange a multi-divisional parent interview and visits for your students.
  • RECOMMENDATIONS & TRANSCRIPTS

Recommendation Forms and the Transcript Request Form are available to you once you submit the student's initial application form.  Please send requests to the appropriate faculty/staff at your child’s school.  The online application portal is our preferred method for receiving recommendation forms and transcripts and allows recommendations to be sent electronically, confidentially, and securely.
    • Current English Teacher Recommendation
    • Current Math Teacher Recommendation
    • Current Principal/Counselor Recommendation
    • Transcripts from Current and Previous School Year
    • Optional Coach Recommendation
    • Optional Arts Recommendation
    • Optional Teacher Recommendation (from a current teacher in a subject area other than Math or English)
  • ISEE ENTRANCE EXAM

The Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) is a required step of the application process for Grades 6 through 12 (and an option for applicants to Grade 5).  Please note that CA will accept results from the SSAT in lieu of the ISEE.

For more information on the exam and to register, use the link below.  Please call the Admission Office at 303-914-2513 to request a waiver code if the $110 registration fee is a hardship.

  • OPTIONAL STUDENT VIDEO

Student Video Submission (Optional for Applicants to Grades 6-12)

To the applicant:  Please prepare a short video about yourself, and address one of the prompts below.  The Admission Committee prefers a video that is less than two minutes and under 200 megabytes.  Videos can be funny or serious; the goal is to allow your personality to emerge.  Thank you, and have fun!
    • Share a story about an act of kindness or an act of courage that you have witnessed sometime in the last year.
    • Tell us how a friend, classmate, sibling, grandparent or cousin would describe your personality and what they most value about you as a person.  Feel free to interview family members about why you might be a good fit at CA.
    • Demonstrate a special talent or skill of which you are proud.
There is an upload feature within the online application portal where you may post your video. Please call us at 303-914-2516 with any questions.
  • FINANCIAL AID APPLICATION

Separate online forms are required for admission and financial aid, though the application cycles overlap. We recommend starting the Financial Aid process after January 1, and completing the process by February 15, 2018, to be considered in the first round of Financial Aid decisions.  Families applying after the February 15 deadline will be considered for the Financial Aid waitlist.
