F. Charles Froelicher Upper School

Bathed in light from 22 skylights, the modern, LEED qualified, state-of-the-art Upper School opened in January 2013 and was renamed as the F. Charles Froelicher Upper School in 2020.
Former Headmaster Chuck Froelicher came to CA in 1955 and transformed the school from a boys-only military academy into the coed college preparatory school it is today. Everywhere you look on campus, you see reminders of the kind of leader Froelicher was—whether looking at the beautiful grounds and the unique learning opportunities provided only at CA, like Woody’s Pond, or to the values we instill today around leadership and adventure. In naming the Upper School after Froelicher, CA pays tribute to a man who loyally served the school for 20 years, and whose impact will be felt forever.

The Froelicher Upper School contains collaboration rooms for students, multiple science laboratories, rotating art displays, floor-to-ceiling white boards in math labs, classrooms with modular furniture to accommodate dynamic teaching styles and small groups, a 110-seat Knowles Lecture Hall, student lounges for each grade, and the Anderson Innovation Lab.
