Abby

CA Sophomore hopes to master public speaking
What grade were you in when you started at CA?
I started CA in Ninth Grade!

When you think of CA, what comes to mind first?
I think of a strong community. From Town Hall, to assemblies, to school spirit, CA has an amazing community that supports everyone. There are so many different interests, which is amazing because there’s a lot of variety.

What is your favorite memory of your time at CA?
I really enjoyed Homecoming Weekseeing all the school spirit was really cool, and I had fun at Homecoming.

What academic subject or class has been challenging to you? What have you done to persevere?
Science has been more challenging than I thought it would beI hadn’t written a lab report until the first trimester of this year. I am focusing more on details, and asking for help if I need it, and I think (and hope) the class is going well!

What you enjoy about arts at CA?
I really liked doing Ceramics this last trimesterI’m not as artistic as I would like to be, but making things with clay and being in a class with my friends was super fun!

What do you love about your experiences in CA athletics?
I played Volleyball during the first trimester, and I really enjoyed it! During preseason, I met my friends and teammates for the first time, which was really fun. I learned a lot about the sport, and about myself and my friends.

If you were to create a nonprofit, what would it do?
If I were to create a nonprofit, it would help underprivileged kids in developing countries. My parents are Ethiopian immigrants, and they’ve always taught me to give back to my community, which is exactly what I want to do. In many developing countries, girls' education isn’t prioritized, and I want to change that. My nonprofit would partner with schools in different countries, to help modernize the education of children.

When people come to you for help, what do they usually want help with?
My friends normally come to me for advice, which is really fun to give. I like being able to help in sticky situations!

What would be the most amazing adventure to go on?
I’d really like to take a trip around the world. I would see rainforests, and deserts, and so much more. I really want to travel more, and see different people in different countries.

What skill would you like to master?
I would really like to master public speaking. It’s hard for me to give speeches and presentations sometimes, but I want to get better at public speaking.
