Think & Drive 2018

Jon Vogels
For almost twenty years, the Parent Association has partnered with the Upper School to create a program called Think & Drive. Designed to alert student drivers to the responsibilities and dangers of driving, the tradition has delivered powerful messages to the community that resonate long after and help students appreciate the importance of safe driving habits. Think & Drive occurs every other year in the spring, so most of our students will see and experience two versions of it during their high school career.

This year's Think and Drive Program:
1:30-2:00 p.m. Students are separated by grade level. Denver West Metro Fire Department will lead the different groups in an interactive talk on the effects of impaired/distracted driving.

Upper School then gathers in the Theatre.
From 2:00-2:30 p.m., they will hear from Porya Mansorian, a litigation attorney in Denver, Colorado, who focuses on personal injury.Mr. Mansorian serves a diverse group of Colorado clients who are the victims of accidents caused by negligence. As an advocate in the area of distracted driving prevention, Mr. Mansorian has spoken to many high school groups on the dangers of the phenomenon. He works with EndDD (end distracted driving), and visits schools to discuss the legal ramifications of texting/impaired driving.
As a result of his accomplishments in the legal profession, Mr. Mansorian received the Tommy Drinkwine “outstanding lawyer of the year” award in 2014 and the Colorado “new trial lawyer of the year” by the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association in 2015. He was also named among the “top 40 under 40” by the National Trial Lawyers from 2015 to 2017.

From 2:30-3:30 p.m., the program continues with
Otis McKay, an Emergency Medicine Service (EMS) Lieutenant at Denver Health Medical Center with over 31 years of experience in paramedicine. Mr. McKay has risen through the ranks of the paramedic division working as a Sr. Paramedic, Tactical SWAT Medic, field trainer, and most recently EMS Lieutenant. He is an enthusiastic educator throughout the community, tirelessly seeking to ensure all citizens have a basic understanding of first aid and access to emergency medicine. He has received several awards, including the Paramedic of the Year from Denver Health and the Medal of Valor from El Jebel Shriners. He’s a captivating speaker who speaks from the perspective of a First Responder at accident scenes.

My thanks to the Parent Association and junior class dean Steven Hammer for coordinating this important program.
