Middle School Robotics Team Advances to State Competition

The Middle School First Lego League Robotics team recently competed in a regional robotics competition at the Discovery Canyon Campus in Colorado Springs. Out of 48 teams, Colorado Academy was one of ten that qualified for the Colorado State Championships, which will be held at Lake Middle School in Denver on December 15, 2017.

The theme of this year’s challenge was water, and so CA students were tasked with designing a robot and programming it to complete challenges relating to water issues they researched in their area.

Teams were judged in four categories: Robot Design, Robot Game, Project, and Core Values.

In the Robot Design category, students were judged on the Lego EV3 Robot they built, as well as the programs they created for completing the challenges. In the Game category, they were judged by how well their robot executed the challenges they had programmed. In the Project category, students were judged on the research they completed in order to pinpoint a local water issue. In the Core Values category, students were judged on how well they worked as a team.
