Mock Trial Students Compete at Providence Cup

This weekend, five mock trial students, Rachel Harris, Justin Ferrugia, Caroline Koclanes, Avery Lin, and Liam Caplan competed in the Providence Cup Mock Trial Tournament sponsored by D.U. Law School.  This year’s case was based on the sinking of the Titanic.  In this fictional version, the Chairman of the Board of the company that built and sailed the “R.M.S. Gigantic” was tried for homicide.  In four rounds of competition, the CA team tried the prosecution and defense sides of the case each two times.  The team did very well, and defeated at least two A teams from other schools,  and missed competing in the fifth and final round for the championship by a narrow margin.  Justin Ferrugia won an individual award for “best lawyer,” and Avery Lin won an individual award for “best witness”––despite having missed a round of competition because of another commitment, which reduced his opportunity to collect best witness votes.  Congratulations to all for an excellent performance!
