Progress on Welborn Reaches New Heights

Trusses are being hoisted into place on Colorado Academy’s historic Welborn House. The more than 100-year-old iconic structure at the center of CA’s campus is undergoing a significant repair and revitalization.

Originally built in 1909, Welborn has seen several additions and renovations over the years to serve changing uses.  The structure was originally built for Ada and Jesse Welborn, who also had a strong hand in its design and landscaping. To this day, the Welborns maintain strong ties to CA, with five generations of the family having been part of the school, including current parent and architect, Andy Rockmore (Shears Adkins Rockmore Architects).

The building houses the school’s Admission Office, making it the very first place families visit as they enter, and it is the very last building that CA seniors leave before they walk across the lawn to receive their diplomas. It is also the home to which students return as new alumni, and it was the residence of the school’s former leaders. For many alumni, it was a ballroom, a classroom, and a dining room. In short, this important structure holds meaningful memories for many generations of the CA family. The building is slated for completion this winter.

Construction is being funded through an alumni campaign and matching challenge gift made by CA alumna Brooke Bansbach Maloy ’90 and Chas Maloy and her parents, Dutch and Pam Bansbach. Additional projects are underway. Visit CASeeitThrough.org for more information.
