CA Students Play Carnegie Hall

Colorado Academy senior Sophia Rodawig, sophomore Caroline Koclanes, and ’16 grad Emily Rockwell performed this summer at Carnegie Hall in New York City as members of the Young Artists Orchestra of the Denver Young Artists Orchestra (DYAO). Emily plays the flute, Sophia plays the cello, and Caroline plays the violin.

The DYAO’s first performance at Carnegie Hall was of Copland’s Billy the Kid, which was part of the Manhattan Concert Productions. The DYAO performed again the following evening as part of the World Projects Sounds of Summer International Music Festival.

At the second performance, DYAO performed a World Premiere by composer Kavon Emtiaz, as well as Capriccio Espagnol and Roman Carnival Overture. The New York tour also included an outreach performance at the Madison Atrium.

Says Jeanne Coleman, mother of Caroline, “The DYAO tour was a wonderful opportunity for these CA students to represent the arts in Denver and the state of Colorado.”
