Six Students and a Teacher Win IT Awards

Congratulations to seniors Christina Bear, Julia Kelly and Maryam Husain, who recently received national and local awards from the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT), which honors high school women who are active and interested in computing and technology.

As one of 35 recipients from over 3100 applicants, Christina Bear earned a 2016 National NCWIT award.  Both Julia Kelly and Maryam Husain earned a 2016 Colorado Award, and seniors Kate Ryan and Michelle Solis, and junior Grace Dorgan earned an award for runner up.

Each affiliate award winner receives recognition at an award event, an engraved award for both her and her school, scholarship and internship opportunities, access to a peer network of technical young women in the NCWIT Aspirations in Computing Community (sponsored by Bloomberg), and various other prizes.

Upper School Computer Science teacher Kimberly Jans was also honored with the Colorado Aspirations in Computing Educator Award, which celebrates high school educators who encourage girls’ interest and participation in technology pursuits.

There will be an Awards Ceremony at the University of Colorado at Boulder honoring all the Colorado recipients on Sunday, April 24, 2016.
