CA Advances to Great 8 in Boys Basketball

In a showdown between the #13 Colorado Academy Mustangs and the #4 Sterling Tigers, CA wins 40 to 30 on Sterling’s home court. In what Director of Athletics Bill Hall called a tremendous display of grit and heart, CA was without one of its leading scorers for more than half the game.  Guard and team co-captain Justin Bassey joined the game in the middle of the second period due to illness and was kept to single digit points. Just a week ago, the senior scored a game high of 32 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, had 4 assists. Also out due to illness was Peter Vukovich-Simonson, who averages 6.9 points per game and who had played in all 22 games prior to the Sterling contest.

Hall says everyone contributed to the win over Sterling including co-captain Christian Hyatt. CA was ahead 25 to 18 at the end of the third period, and then up by 7 points with 3:47 to go. Davis Lebsock had 14 points for the Tigers, and their team finished 19-5 for the season. As tournament play continues, CA will play against #21 Manual who upset #5 Eaton 97-90 in double OT. CA and Manual both move on to the Great 8 on March 10 at the Denver Coliseum. The Final Four and the State Championship game are March 11 and 12, respectively.
