Climbing Team Finishes First Year On Top

The Colorado Academy Boys Climbing team made up of freshmen Hagen Hall, Mason Smith, sophomores Jack Prall, Ben Fitzgerald, and senior Arthur Wright, finished in third place at the State Climbing Tournament on February 27, 2016.

Alena Holbert finished second overall for the women’s division. Hagen Hall finished second overall for the men’s division.

This marks the first season for the Colorado Academy climbing team. Says coach Forbes Cone, “It’s been an absolute pleasure to coach this team. Over the course of the season, this group formed a cohesive team, bringing together experienced climbers and newbies alike.”

In the junior varsity competition, freshman Tristan Hall finished in the top 15 with strong performances by junior Hope Hendry, sophomores Cooper Bedin, William McCormick and Nicholas Pulido.

The teams competed against more than 20 schools and 160 competitors from around Colorado.

Says Cone: "They all supported one another and showed so much tenacity against some long established programs that are perennial powerhouses. Most of all, this is a great group of kids who kept things in perspective and gave their best effort."
