Visit to University of San Francisco

Cathy visited USF. Here's her report!
Cathy from our office visited the University of San Francisco in February 2016. It's a really interesting place for the right student!

Here are Cathy's notes from her visit:

·         One of the most diverse campuses I’ve seen!  Primary demographic populations in the student body include 20-25% Hispanic, 20-25% Asian, 20-25% White, with 17% international students.  An incredibly diverse, inclusive, supportive community is evident everywhere.

·         For a CA student who wants easy access to a city right outside their classroom and dorm, USF is ideal.  The place is teeming with opportunities and a rich cultural life.  Note: USF only guarantees housing for freshman and about 30% of upperclassmen who request it.  They currently have about 2200 beds on campus but will have 600 more in four years when a new dorm is completed.  Most upperclassmen move into the San Fran neighborhoods surrounding the campus; USF students are very sophisticated at using public transportation and quickly become comfortable with it.

·         Opportunities for internships are beyond compare and every USF student is expected to have three by the time they graduate.  Their Career Services Office is outstanding with incredible networks, especially given the industry headquarters located literally blocks from them.  (LinkedIn, Uber, Google, Facebook, Twitter just to name a few.)  USF also has special access to an internship network that partners with 22 other institutions including Harvard, Princeton and Notre Dame.

·         The social justice piece of their Jesuit mission is very real and tangible.  Students believe in service and a service component is integrated into much of their coursework and internships.

·         They are proud to be named an “A+ school for the B+ kid”.  They believe that the growth their students experience over their four years at USF is tremendous.

·         Their financial aid office is accessible and generous, with merit scholarships available up to 22K/year.
