Sixth Grade Student Earns Second Place in Math Competition

Congratulations to Jack Younger, who received second place in the sixth grade category in Valor’s 3rd Annual Math Competition, which was held on Saturday, January 23, 2016.

Says Middle School math teacher Jason Koza, “It was a great showing and each student did really well.”

Overall, the competition saw more than 200 students from 19 different middle schools, competing in individual and team tests. Colorado Academy was represented by members of the Mathletes, an after-school MS club headed by Koza and Middle School math teacher, Kathy Zolla. Those students were eighth graders Alex Foreman, Kendall Beall, Abbie McAdams, Cooper Kofron, and Jasmine Bilir; seventh graders Riley Barthels, Jordan Davidson, and Zoe Worrall; and sixth grader Jack Younger.

“I am impressed with how each student was willing to take time out of busy weekends to challenge themselves and push their own comfort level with mathematics,” says Koza.

Next, the Mathletes will participate in the regional MATHCOUNTS competition at the University of Denver on Saturday, Feruary 6, 2016. MATHCOUNTS is a national math enrichment program that promotes middle school mathematics achievement.
