Education Futurist SPEAKS at CA

Three SPEAK lectures dot the Colorado Academy calendar in February, including a young, brilliant, globally connected leader of the next generation of education futurists, Andrew Zolli. Zolli, who will speak Thursday, February 4 at 6 p.m., is co-author of Resilience: Why Things Bounce Back.

In his exciting presentations, Zolli outlines the trends that will shape our future, and he helps audiences respond intelligently to the emerging complex changes that will matter most to them. He offers a marvelous blend of valuable content and fantastic delivery. Zolli is Executive Director of Pop!Tech, a non-profit which brings together innovators from a variety of fields — science, technology, design and public health, among others — in an effort to find unusual, collaborative solutions to the world’s
biggest problems.

He is also a Fellow of the National Geographic Society, where he leads development of a global initiative to envision new scenarios for a sustainable world in 2030 and beyond. This past year, he published his latest book, Resilience: Why Things Bounce Back. In it, Zolli, who has a background in cognitive science, details a key trait of successful entrepreneurs and organizations.

Part of his lecture at CA will focus on the new ways in which schools could be educating kids to be more resilient and better able to thrive in an age of tremendous uncertainty. A book signing will follow the lecture.  Click here to RSVP.

Other lecturers this month include Dr. Scott Sampson, Chief Curator at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, who will talk about “Raising a Wild Child,” and his book of the same title. Sampson is a dinosaur paleontologist, science communicator, and a passionate advocate for connecting people with nature. He is also host and science advisor for the PBS Kids TV series titled Dinosaur Train. He will speak on Monday, February 8, at 8:30 a.m. A book signing will follow the lecture. Click here to RSVP.

Lastly, the Middle School parent association meeting on February 9 will welcome Dr. Jennifer L. Woods, who will speak about “What Parents Need to Know About Adolescent Sexuality.” The lecture will take place in the MS Community room beginning at 8:30 a.m.

All lectures are free and open to the public. Please RSVP via the CA website so that we can ensure proper seating and refreshments.
