Holiday Gratitude from Horizons

Jessie Skipwith, Horizons Executive Director
The holiday season marks the midway point of the year-round programming for our Horizons students. During the first half of the 2015-16 school year, Horizons students stayed connected with the CA community through monthly Super Saturdays and monthly check-ins at Knapp Elementary School.

Students participated in creative movement classes, indoor rock climbing, controlled robots with iPads, and practiced holiday songs for the upcoming Horizons Family Holiday Dinner. Thanks to CA dance teacher Meg Hill, CA Outdoor Education teacher, Forbes Cone, CA P.E. teacher, Marcia Richards, CA music teacher, Jennifer Arnold and CA Middle School Science teacher, Thanh Luong,

The CA Upper School Horizons student club has stepped into a true leadership role this year under the guidance of seniors Piper Bittman and Loida Luna and junior Claire Greydanus.

More than 15 CA students have continued to generously give of their time to Horizons through program development, student mentorship and administrative support, allowing Horizons to thrive as students aspire to reach new milestones.

Horizons is grateful to partner with CA’s Students H.O.P.E. (Helping Other People Eat) program again this year where CA students help provide those in need gently used clothing, toiletries and baby care items, new holiday toys, basic medical care, including flu shots, and a holiday meal. At the invitation of CA student representatives, Horizons families will benefit from this great service provided to the larger Denver community.

Last, please mark your calendars for our eighth annual Horizons Wine & Dine, which will take place on CA’s campus on February 18, 2016 from 6:30 to 10:00 p.m. in the Campus Center. This year’s theme is Disco Daze and we look forward to seeing you there.

Thank you and happy holidays from Horizons at Colorado Academy!
