Gearing Up for Students H.O.P.E.

Students at Colorado Academy are preparing for the school’s annual service learning event that helps nearly 2,000 people in the Denver Metro area. Every December, low-income residents from around the come to the CA campus to receive clothing, children’s holiday gifts, personal care items, children’s books, a festive meal, and more.

Students H.O.P.E., which stands for Helping Other People Eat and will take place on December 5, 2015, is the largest service-learning project at Colorado Academy, and it is organized and run completely by students. When it started more than 20 years ago, the event served about 200 people in a downtown Denver homeless shelter. The current effort will serve ten times that many—families bused to campus by CA from downtown shelters and agencies.

Students H.O.P.E is asking for clothing donations to be separated and labeled according to gender, and toiletry donations to be bagged and labeled separately.  All donations may be dropped off in bins located in each of CA’s divisional buildings.

About 100 students volunteer for the event, both leading up to the day and on the day of Students H.O.P.E.  Additional volunteers are always welcome. To volunteer, please arrive at 8:30 a.m. on December 5 and check in at the volunteer table.
