CA Students Place First at Climbing Competition

The Colorado Academy climbing team had another great result this Saturday, November 7, 2015, when they competed at Thrillseekers, a local climbing gym. Freshman Alena Holbert finished first for the girls and Hagen Hall finished first for the boys, resulting in the second consecutive competition to result in a first place finish for the two climbers.

Junior Arthur Wright and freshman Mason Smith finished second and third for the boys, respectively.

Students competed on both boulder and ropes courses after choosing from 20 climbs: 10 bouldering climbs and 10 roped climbs. Scores were based on the best five climbs, which were a combination of three bouldering routes and two ropes routes. In order to 'complete' a route, a student must climb from the starting hold to the final hold without falling.

The Colorado Academy competitors included; Alena Holbert, Cooper Bedin, Ben Fitzgerald, Nicholas Pulido, Eric Masinter, Hagen Hall, Mason Smith, Sophie Cannon, Arthur Wright, Jack Prall and Tristan Hall.

Says Climbing Coach and Director of Experiential Education Forbes Cone, "I am so impressed by the work ethic of this group! In a short two months since forming a team, our kids are already having success. That's a testament to the mindset of this group and their 'try-hard'. Students like Ben Fitzgerald and Jack Cahill who have never competed prior to this season, are finishing in the top 10, which is unprecedented."
