Matsiko Children's Choir Performs at Colorado Academy

Colorado Academy’s All-School assembly this week welcomed the high-energy performance of the  Matsiko World Children’s Choir, a touring musical group of orphans and at-risk kids; it is a program with the International Children’s Network. The choir is comprised of children from Peru, India, or Liberia, and they perform to help raise money for other orphaned children or school costs for other at-risk kids. Part of their mission is to highlight the estimated 600 million orphaned, at-risk and trafficked children around the world. The nearly 20 kids in the group keep up with their schoolwork even while on a world tour; even as the performance was underway, some of the group members were working on homework in the Team Room next to the CA gymnasium. Matsiko means “hope” in the language of a northern Uganda tribe. Many of their songs tell the stories of their home countries and cultures.
