CA Community Supports Horizons at Wine & Dine

Thanks to the generous support of our CA Community, Horizons at CA had a record year, raising more than $100,000 – a significant portion of its annual operating budget – through an annual fundraising extravaganza. Horizons is a nonprofit program that offers student enrichment designed specifically for Denver Public School children from low-income families. Jessie Skipwith, executive director, says, “In my first year as the new executive director of Horizons at Colorado Academy, I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to work with so many wonderful people in support of such a great service program. Horizons strives to meet the needs of the families and children served, and to be able to partner with the CA parent and volunteer community has been absolutely energizing!”

Much appreciation to the CA Head of School, Business Department and Board of Trustees for their unwavering support of Horizons. A special thanks to event co chairs Rachel Aguirre, Purcell Allen, Laura Lee Gastis, and Denise Kay. Thank you as well to our event volunteers:

This fundraising event would not be possible without the generous contributions of our food and beverage partners:
  • Ace Eat Serve, Vesta Dipping Grill & Steuben’s Food Service; Josh and Jen Wolkon, and Brandon and Emily Biederman
  • Blake Street Tavern; Chris and Liz Fuselier ‘82
  • Colorado Academy Chefs Alex Porter and Paul Worley
  • Colt & Gray and Ste. Ellie; Nelson and Allison Perkins ‘95
  • Daz Bog Coffee; Leo Yuffa
  • Gourmet To Go; Michael Schwartz and Kristie Brice-Schwartz
  • Rebecca Caro; Personal Chef
  • Strange Craft Brewing Company; Tim and Marni Myers
  • City Bakery; Michael Bortz

In addition, for the first time in Horizons history, we had generous corporate sponsorships for our event’s games and activities. These philanthropic businesses underwrote our evening’s activities:
  • Alpine Buick GMC’s Saloon Sling
  • Gentle Smiles of Colorado, Dr. Timothy Wachuta, DDS — Jail and Photo Booth

We extend our appreciation to our school volunteers who made the night possible: Buck McKenna, Mary Singer, Gary Varden, Alanna Brown, Joyce Livak, Shea Jackson, Rory Butler and Jared Katzman. And huge kudos to Jesse Schumacher and his entire operations team which transformed our Campus Center within hours into the Ol’ Wild West.

We also thank the entire CA community, which donated items for our successful silent auction and contributed so generously during the evening.

The Horizons community would also like to express it's sincere gratitude and appreciation to Angle Vigil, Fine and Performing Arts chair, who offered the Colorado Academy community a wonderful performance as he presented his farewell concert benefiting the Colorado Academy Horizons program in Froelicher Theater on Janurary 23, 2015. More than 200 guests were in attendance for his outstanding performance. A big thanks for your extraordinary generosity and remarkable commitment to the Colorado Academy family over the past 31 years!
