Senior McCoy Hits 1,000 Points in Basketball

Renee Rockford
Congratulations to Colorado Academy senior Marin McCoy who, this weekend, hit the 1000-point mark in her high school basketball career at the game against Lutheran. McCoy had 16 points in the Lutheran game, and is averaging 15.4 per game. So far this season, she has scored 281 points. Says her coach, Meghan Peregord, “Marin's no-quit attitude and humble approach to her athletics has allowed her to excel in all aspects of competition. A 1000+ point career is a rare accomplishment for a high school athlete, and that achievement is overshadowed only by her unselfish play and team-entered focus.” The team plays its final league game away against Skyview Academy on February 17, 2015 and hosts Vanguard School for Senior Night on Thursday, February 19, 2015.

McCoy is a three-sport, 10-Varsity Letter athlete. She is the only Colorado Academy female athlete in recent years to make First Team All-Conference in three different sports.

In basketball, she has served as one of the team captains this year and last. She holds the title of Player of the Year last year, and earned First Team All Conference for the 3A Metro League. She holds nine Player of the Game honors. She also plays volleyball and soccer for CA.  In volleyball, she was a two-year varsity captain, and First Team All- Conference. In soccer, she has garnered these honors:
  • NSCAA All-Region Player of the Year as a freshman and junior
  • 3A Player of the Year
  • First Team All-Conference and all-state all three years
  • First Team All-Colorado as a freshman and Junior.
McCoy is headed to Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania to play soccer for the Swarthmore Garnet – a team that is coming off its best season in school history.
