Colorado Academy Honors Seven DIII College-Bound Student-Athletes

(DENVER) -- Colorado Academy is honoring seven student-athletes who have committed to play collegiate sports at Division III colleges and universities across the United States. They include Jillian Christensen who will play field hockey at Rhodes College; Lucas DeSantis who will play baseball at Sewanee: The University of the South; Henley Hall who will play Lacrosse at Middlebury College; Fletcher Kerr: who will play tennis at Sewanee: The University of the South; Chris Kuelling who will play basketball at Sewanee: The University of the South; Marin McCoy who will play soccer at Swarthmore College, and Julia Murphy who will play field hockey at Dickinson College. These seven students join students Jessica Gilliam and Sterre Van Ede, both who signed with Division I schools at the start of the NCAAs National Letter of Intent signing period last November. Gilliam will play softball with the University of Dayton, and Van Ede will play field hockey with the University of California – Berkeley.
 
CA teachers and coaches honored the DIII athletes February 3 at a reception for the students and their families. Each year, approximately 10% of CA’s senior class commits to play college sports. This week’s honorees are:
  • Jillian Christensen is a strong midfielder field hockey player at CA with career stats of ten goals and eight assists. She played on CA’s team for all four years.
  • Lucas DeSantis is a left-handed pitcher and right-handed hitter who started on the varsity baseball team since his freshman year. In the 2014 season, he was captain and received First Team All-Conference.
  • Henley Hall has played both field hockey and lacrosse at CA. She is among three of CA’s players who rank in the top five in the state for points in field hockey. In lacrosse, she has been CA’s top scorer.
  • Fletcher Kerr was a tennis State Champion his senior year. He was named All-State and All-Colorado Tennis Team this year, and during the Regional Tournament of his senior year, he had a Golden Match (didn't lose a point) and three Golden Sets.
  • Chris Kuelling is basketball player who averages 18-20 points per game, and is a three-point sharpshooter. He has played both basketball and lacrosse for CA.
  • Marin McCoy is a three-sport athlete at CA, playing volleyball, basketball and soccer.  Marin is the only CA female athlete to make First Team All-Conference in three different sports, and she comes away with these honors for her play in soccer: NSCAA All-Region Player of the year as a freshman and junior, 3A Player of the Year, First Team All-Conference and All-State all three years, and First Team All-Colorado as a freshman and junior.
  • Julia Murphy played center-forward for CA in field hockey and took part in the unprecedented three-time state championship wins by that team. She also played outside midfielder in soccer and played on one state title team. As Field Hockey co-captain, she piled up 44 goals 29 assists and 9 steals, plus player of the year honors in 2012. She was selected to train at the 2015 Futures Elite Academies. The Academies exist to provide additional training and competition opportunities for athletes distinguished with the potential to one day represent Team USA.
 
Colorado Academy is a Pre-K through 12, college preparatory independent school in southwest Denver serving 950 students from throughout the Denver Metro area.
