4 Inclusive Activities This Month in Denver

Adrian Michael Green
Did you know that January is National Braille Literacy Month?  January was the chosen month because Louis Braille, the inventor of the system of raised dots to help make it possible for people who are blind to read and write for themselves, was born.

Have your heard about the Braille Challenge?  It is an academic competition for visually impaired students who read braille (grades 1-12).  Students compete between January and March throughout the US and Canada.

Visit National Braille Press (http://www.nbp.org/) to learn more about braille literacy.

All-School
Martin Luther King Day Marade (March and Parade) Monday, January 19th (School is closed)
Denver has one of the largest celebrations in the US honoring the Revered Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  Thousands of people of all ages come together at City Park and march together to Civic Center Park.  Schools and organizations typically bring banners and high energy to commemorate the legacy of this Civil Rights leader and advocate.  Begins at 9:00am; starts at the MLK statue in City Park off of 17th and Esplanade, Denver 80205 across the street from East High School.

Our very own Noah Jones ('15) will be one of the Masters of Ceremonies.

2015 National Western Stock Show
"Denver's National Western Stock Show is one of the world's premier Western spectacles. Pull on your cowboy boots, grab your chaps and see it for yourself each January just north of downtown Denver at the National Western Complex (Jan. 10–25, 2015). For the last 108 years, thousands of visitors from across the country have come out to see more than 15,000 animals, rodeo performances, bull-riding competitions, dancing-horse shows, barrel racing, auctions and booths selling everything from cowboy boots to cookware to golf vacations." Cherry Creek Diversity Conference Saturday, January 31
"Our view of diversity is all-inclusive. While most people often associate the word 'diversity' with ethnicity, the conference deals with a wide range of topics including cliques, physical and mental challenges, religion, sexual orientation, art and music, gender, socio-economic concerns, and teenage social problems."

I need to know if students (and faculty) are interested in attending.  We will have to register CA and the students ASAP as the registration fee is $27/person
