Countdown to Students H.O.P.E.

Upper School students at Colorado Academy are making final preparations for CA’s largest service project of the year, Students H.O.P.E (Helping Other People Eat), which will take place Saturday, December 6, 2014 in CA’s Campus Center and Gymnasium, 3800 South Pierce Street in Southwest Denver. This student-run project is now in its 21st year.

On the day of the event, CA will provide food, clothing, holiday gifts and flu shots for up to 2,000 people from Denver area shelters, service agencies, and Denver Public School families in need.  CA works in advance with locations throughout Denver so that bus transportation can be provided for families to CA’s southwest Denver campus.

H.O.P.E. is the largest student-run club on campus, and students have been working for months to collect clothing donations, financial gifts and more.  Nearly 40 students have helped to plan the event under the leadership of two high school seniors and faculty advisors. More than 100 student volunteers will work the event.

Each child in attendance will receive a new, wrapped holiday gift and a visit with Santa. Families also have the opportunity to select from gently-used clothing and pick up essential toiletries. They also take part in holiday games and a festive meal.

CA students from a variety of grades will help sort and fold several tons of clothing on Friday, December 5 in advance of the H.O.P.E. event. In addition to the clothing donations, students will begin collecting 200 donated pies to serve at the event.
