4 Ways to Celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month

Adrian Green
Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15 by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.

Many of those thinkers and innovators have greatly influenced American society-- citizens like Cesar Estrada Chavez, labor leader, Sandra Cisneros, writer and author of The House on Mango Street, Sammy Davis, Jr., singer and actor, and
 Franklin Chang-Diaz, astronaut and scientist.

Recognizing these histories and cultures, as well as the great contributions made to our country, National Hispanic Heritage Month was started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson. It was then expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period and enacted into law on August 17, 1988.

Here are some great ways you, too, can celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month in the Denver area.
