The Curious Connection Continues
Three CA-Curious Theatre Playwriting Institute leaders--seniors Jess Masinter, Alex Meyer and Zenzi Price--had the unique opportunity to display their playwriting skills to visitors from North Africa and the Near East at the Curious Theatre on Monday May 19. These artists, musicians, composers, arts administrators, and educators from Algiers ,Yemen, Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, and Iraq visitied Denver as part of the State Department's initiative to“Engage Youth through the Performing Arts.” One of the state department’s objectives in organizing this program is to examine outreach programs that use performing arts to engage youth in society and teach youth leadership and conflict resolution skills. Therefore, they contacted Dee Covington, Curious Theatre Education Director, who in turn contacted Betsey Coleman, CA Playwriting coordinator. The students read sections of the plays they wrote for this year’s institute and had their readings, explanations and responses to questions translated into Arabic and French.
