Bravo on Performing Arts Innovations!

Mike Davis
On Wednesday night, I had the pleasure of watching the cast of the spring musical in a dress rehearsal.  As Director Stephen Scherer masterfully gave critical feedback and fine-tuned the performance, I sat in awe of our students. In the Mystery of Edwin Drood, which will be performed in our Campus Center this Friday and Saturday nights, the actors and actresses of CA are trying something a bit different. It is a complicated piece with sophisticated music and vocal performances, and it is being performed in a dinner theater-style production.  It is also interactive with multiple endings.

What amazed me was not only the quality of our student actors and actresses, but the fact that they are able to pull off such strong performances on top of a heavy academic workload.  These students were engaged as Scherer walked them through the finer points of the performance.  His supportive tone and interactions with the students were impressive -- he had the right touch; setting high standards while being a cheerleader for their success.

There is a strong sense of camaraderie which is special to behold and see in a rehearsal setting. The students were serious, yet also excited, anticipating opening night.  Bravo on taking our program to new heights and break a leg in this weekend's performances.
