Congratulations Field Hockey!

Congratulations to the Colorado Academy Field Hockey Team for winning the 2013 State Championship Title, its second in as many years. The girls had another phenomenal season under the leadership of Coach Daan Polders; they entered the finals with an undefeated 16-0 record for the season and as a team, they have racked up 32 straight wins.

Throughout the season, the girls have played with poise and have been tremendous representatives our school. Like other student-athletes at CA, these girls have worked hard, practiced long, and aimed for the top.

Going into the finals, CA and Kent Denver received the top two seeds in the brackets. In a rematch of last year’s state championship, CA beat Palmer Ridge in the semi-finals, and Cherry Creek knocked out Kent Denver.  Going into the championship game, the Mustangs had won seven of the previous eight match-ups against Creek, including a 3-1 victory on September 25. The first goal in the opening minutes of the game tonight came from junior Henley Hall. Julia Murphy, also a junior, scored the second point. Both goals remained unanswered by Creek.

Before the game, CA's own Fratelli boys choir, under the direction of Cindy Jordan, sang the National Anthem. The performance came at the boys’ request. We had an amazing crowd of students, parents, alumni, and friends of the school cheering the girls on. I want to thank everyone for providing such a supportive community at CA for all of our students’ endeavors. The best thing about inter-scholastic athletics is that students represent the school, and the entire community takes joy and pride in their efforts.

CA has had a great fall season, and some of our teams continue their post-season play. I want to congratulate all of our fall athletic squads for their dedication and hard work. The core of our mission is to have students excel in academics, the arts, and athletics, and to provide opportunities for students to do so. Again, congratulations to our Field Hockey Team for such an extraordinary accomplishment. Click here for a photo gallery.
