Thank You Parent Volunteers

Mike Davis
I wanted to share this “mid-tri” report from our Parent Association President, Sharlene Funk. From time to time, people may wonder, “With such a vibrant and active community, how does it all get done?” Often those who “get it done” go unnoticed. Thank you to all of our parent volunteers and all of the support that you provide the school and our school community.

Parent Association “Mid-Tri Report”
We started out the year before school was even in session with the Welcome to CA Committee, chaired by Kimberly Hak, delivering 144 “Welcome Bags” to all new CA students in 40 different zip codes.  The bags contained included a CA t-shirt, a CA carabiner, CA lanyard, schedules, magnets, and a cookie from our own CA kitchen (yum!). The feedback that I received was fantastic; this committee went a long way toward making new students feel welcome and ready to join our community. Thank you Kimberly and all your helpers for making our new students’ first days a tiny bit easier!

Not even two weeks in to the new school year, the PA hosted its traditional SPLASH Volunteer Fair.  Chair Marte Timmers and her committee put together an event that highlighted our volunteer spirit and transformed the Dining Hall into a fun and festive atmosphere where volunteers and committees could "make a match"! More than 150 parents attended to explore volunteer opportunities at CA.  That morning resulted in 702 NEW sign-ups for committees or clubs. Thank you, Marte and all your committee members, for providing such a fun, welcoming environment, allowing parents to find just the right activity and to get involved.

The Faculty Appreciation Committee has been at work showing our faculty and staff how much we appreciate all they do for our children. The FAC co-chairs, Megan Trembath, Cindy O'Donnell, and Lisa Leonardi began work in August with Welcome Gifts to the new faculty and an on-site coffee truck during the Faculty Orientation Week to welcome everyone back for another great year.  The committee also planned delicious and healthy meals for faculty members before each divisional Back-to-School night, and is doing the same for the upcoming Parent-Teacher conferences. Thank you Lisa, Megan, and Cindy for showing how much we appreciate all the teachers and staff at CA.

The CA community had an opportunity to get professional-quality portraits done on campus in mid-September.  Photographer Trevor Brown was at CA for two days taking appointments for kids/siblings/ families (and even dogs!) to get a custom portrait done.  Chair Katie MacPhail did a tremendous job promoting, scheduling, and organizing the day.  Nearly 40 families took advantage of this opportunity.  Thank you, Katie, for helping so many families capture a "Kodak moment"!

The Carnival and Bake Sale committees hosted a CA’s Homecoming event last weekend.  Co-chairs Leslie Mease, Brenda Alexander, and Frances Hall hosted more than 500 people at this fun, community-building afternoon.  The Carnival had pony rides, a bike parade, games, a picnic, a very touching statue dedication, plus lots more.  Thank you Leslie, Brenda and Frances for continuing a long-standing CA tradition.

Bake Sale chairs Diane Colpack and Kristi McLaughlin were helping to provide treats for the hungry Carnival. They had an outstanding turnout of donated baked goods, salsas, sauces, pickles, and spices.  Plus the "icing on the cake" was the warm, cozy ambience they created in their booth.  Thank you Diane and Kristi for making Homecoming delicious!

And the Tennis Club, chaired by Claudia Clinkscales, held a fun, parent tennis event.  Twenty-four parents of all abilities showed up to play tennis in a round-robin format.  Everyone got a little exercise and had a lot of laughs! Thank you Claudia.
