Longevity and Impact at CA

Mike Davis
Now that May is here, we are in the process of counting down the school year. We have a host of amazing end-of-year celebrations. They range from a series of culminating music recitals to an All-School Art Fest this coming Monday. There are banquets and award ceremonies, and events to thank our volunteers.  Then, we close it out with Lower and Middle school continuations and lastly, senior commencement.  It is an exciting time, as well as one that makes one appreciate and value Colorado Academy.

In our upcoming Senior Journal, our soon-to-be-graduates share their favorite CA memories and traditions. It is a culminating glimpse at how they have spent their time at CA. We pride ourselves on building a community of learners that come from all walks of life, all parts of the city, and who join CA at any point along their educational journey – from Pre-K to sometimes as late as their senior year. All of their different experiences create the fabric of who and what we are as a community.

It is worth mentioning the tremendous impact that the students and families who have been here since Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten have on our school. Somehow, these students have adopted the name "lifers" referring to the time of their academic careers spent at CA. In this graduating class, there are 23 “lifers,” and they account for 28% of the graduating class.

There are deep friendships and relationships among the families and between the students who have spent all those formative years together.  These longtime families play a key role in perpetuating some of those traditions at CA that we hold dear; they extend our values as a school.

This group of families has been incredibly devoted and supportive of the school over the years.  They have remained involved and engaged, and have given of themselves for more than a dozen years  -- continuing to help make Colorado Academy an outstanding educational institution.

In addition to our lifers, I want to acknowledge the tremendous accomplishments of ALL of our seniors and their families.  I look forward to celebrating their triumphs and contributions at our end-of-year celebrations.
