Appreciation in Place of Expectation

I am looking forward to our event this weekend to benefit financial aid at CA. While the biennial auction, and in alternating years, our CA concerts, are terrific and enjoyable community-building events, they are also incredible celebrations of our ability as a school to support one another -- not just because it is the right thing to do, but also because it makes us better as a community.

Our ability as a school to offer nearly $2.5 million annually to 166 students (18% of our student body) makes an exceptional education possible for highly qualified and deserving students whose only limitation is being in need of financial assistance. They have the will to succeed, the resilience to persevere, and the desire to make a difference in the world. In turn, the role they play in our community benefits all of us.

If you are attending the auction, you will see excerpts from some of the many letters written by students who receive aid. Says one, “I am truly lucky to be at CA, and to have financial assistance. I’m glad people are willing to give students like me a chance. I look back on my experience and I think about how much I have grown and changed. Every single teacher I have had has inspired me to work hard. I have had many great opportunities while at CA, and it wouldn't have been possible without your support.”

These letters are for me constant reminders of how appreciation instead of expectation changes how we see the world. To each of you, thank you for your support for CA and for financial aid.
