Inspiring & Energizing: TEDx at CA

Mike Davis
I am inspired. I am motivated. I am energized.

Today, Colorado Academy hosted the TEDxDenverTeachers conference, a collaboration among CA, Denver Public Schools, and the Association of Colorado Independent Schools.   A year ago, we at CA were intrigued by the notion of hosting a TEDx event focused on innovation in education. We applied and received a TEDx license. But then, we decided to think big!  Instead of limiting the conversation to just our community, we approached ACIS and DPS and pitched the idea of making it a collaborative event for educators throughout our city. (In fact, we’re delighted to welcome educators from across the state, as well as presenters from across the U.S.)

In the spirit of the TED and Colorado Academy mission statements, we were excited to form a public-private school partnership; the first kind that we know of in the U.S.  Working with leaders of ACIS and DPS, we worked to develop a fantastic program aimed at facilitating a discussion of 21st century teaching.  The speakers were fantastic, and edgy – from slam poetry and cowboy ethics to the role of technology in changing education. (Click here for our presenters)  In a few days, I will be able to post the talks on our website, and I hope that you will take time to watch. A TED talk is intended to be short, insightful, creative, and fun.  They are thought-provoking and designed to share deep thought, experience, and insight. The TED website is where I like to go to look for new ideas and insights. Next year, we hope to grow this event.  Stay tuned to future posts in which I provide you the links, and see a TEDx talk in person. It is truly invigorating.

I’d like to acknowledge Colorado Academy Middle School Principal Bill Wolf-Tinsman for his vision and role in pulling this event together.
