Admission Season

Jon Vogels
I always enjoy the admission process. Reading through the application files of eager prospective students is exciting and a great way to re-energize us as we plan for the coming school year.  This year a very strong applicant pool competed for spots in the 9th grade primarily, but we also had some wonderful applicants for our 10th and 11th grades.  In all there were more than 150 files to consider and in the end we offered admission to a diverse and talented group from all over the Denver metro area--and beyond, as several families relocating from other states also applied.

This past Tuesday we hosted a get-together for all the students admitted to next year's 9th, 10th and 11th grades. Joined by quite a few of our current 8th graders, these students and their families had a chance to mingle with Upper School faculty, coaches and staff, and tour (or re-tour) the new Upper School building.  Dr. Davis and I made short presentations in which we thanked these students for considering CA and hoped they would join our ranks for the 2013-2014 school year.  The event was a great way to celebrate CA tradition and consider the ways in which new students and their families can add to an already vibrant community.

I want to offer my sincere thanks and gratitude to the entire Upper School Admissions Committee, led by Carolyn Ash, and including Katie Deponty, Bill Hall, Catherine Laskey, Andres Roblero, John Threlkeld, Tom Thorpe, and Judy Zinn.  Much time and effort goes into interviewing candidates, reading files, making selections, recruiting admits, and following up with families.  These folks provide a great service to the ongoing strength of the school.

Admitted students must make their final decisions within the next few days.  We look forward to welcoming our new students and families to the CA Upper School!
