Confessions of a Recent Twitter Convert

Jon Vogels
I admit to being pleasantly surprised by how useful Twitter is as an educational resource.  Not only do I receive information from many interesting friends and colleagues, I now read dozens of interesting articles a week from sources like Edutopia, the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), Round Peg Square Hole Ed, Wired Ed, the Stanford D School and Tony Wagner.  Truly I feel more connected than ever before to what is going on currently in today's fast-paced educational world.

Additionally, I have found Twitter to be an excellent way to stay up to date with news of the world; this has been particularly helpful in support of the Contemporary Voices of the Middle East elective I am teaching this trimester.  There are on-the-scene reports coming from Syria, for instance, that help me track the civil war there.  I feel like I can scan headlines through Twitter, clicking on the links for articles I wish to read.  Additionally, the iPad version of Twitter is excellent and user-friendly--even better if you look at it through the Flipboard app.

You can follow me @chesvog.  I promise not to "overtweet" -- I typically send out 5-7 per week, including re-tweets of favorite links or comments.  In addition to educational and/or CA-related matters, I might send something out about a cultural interest of mine: a good film, a new music discovery, or a fascinating news piece.  In all, it has been a nice discovery for me and one that I think will help me communicate even better with the CA community.
