See What's Happening on the Sharp End

Mike Davis
When rock climbing, you are on "the sharp end" when you lead climb. This is when the rope and partner are below you.  For many, it's "real" climbing, because there is no rope holding up your weight or catching your progress.  Your success is defined by your careful thinking and your execution.

At CA, we try to be on the "sharp end" in terms of being forward thinking about teaching and learning.  One of the coolest experiences I have had recently was participating in Hathaway Brown's Innovation Summit, a national conference funded by the E.E. Ford Foundation.  Bill Wolf-Tinsman, Co Berry, and I presented the work we have been doing at Colorado Academy related to design thinking.  We also got to see other amazing talks from other educational leaders about some very exciting initiatives in education.  We can learn so much from others and a wonderful thing about independent schools, both locally and nationally, is a willingness to share our success stories.

The following is a link that will take you to some videos that Hathaway Brown has posted of the various speakers.  It is an impressive group, and there are great talks about public-private partnerships, promoting equity and justice in schools, school reform, values and leadership training, and many more engaging topics.  If you are interested in school issues, please check this out.

It was an amazing conference that was incredibly well-run by the Hathaway Brown School.  I appreciated the opportunity to participate and to learn about the great things that are happening in the educational world.
