Freshmen Putting Beds to Bed

Colorado Academy’s freshman class will spend its first grade-wide service day on October 16 putting the “beds to bed.” Students will work with the Denver Parks and Recreation Department employees at nine city parks across the metro area to clear the flowerbeds and turn the soil to prepare the beds for winter. Tasks include removing annual flowers, dragging tarps, loading flowers in trucks and digging dirt.

“This will be a great experience for our students to work in our beautiful Denver Parks and to give back to the city in which we live,” says Director of Leadership and Service Learning, David Colodny. The work is part of CA’s Upper School Service Learning curriculum, which includes 20 hours of service per year. When the students become seniors, they conduct an individual service project targeted to a student’s area of interest.
