Fifth Grade Students Adopt CA Golf Team

When Colorado Academy’s men’s varsity golf team hosted this season’s final Metro League tournament at Foothills Golf Course, the players had to be warned in advance of the crowd that was turning out for the event.
CA’s entire fifth grade class, now paired with the varsity golf team through the school’s Adopt-a-Team program, traveled the short distance to Foothills Golf Course on a beautiful fall afternoon to cheer on the team, and even got in some putting and golf instruction of their own.

Separated into three groups, the students rotated between a full swing station with LPGA teaching professional and CA Middle School coach Nina Kratz and Coach Bill Witt, a putting course complete with ramps and other obstacles and a chance to watch the Upper School team in action.

Part of the afternoon included instructions from CA Coach and Foothills Golf Pro Beth Folsom on when the golfers required silence, and when and how it was appropriate to clap and cheer.

Some of the fifth graders are already thinking about the sport they will play in Middle and High school, and standing on the putting green, many announced they would be playing golf. CA’s team finished with their best team score of the season and senior Sam Scherman fired a 76 for a 7th place finish.

The varsity competes at the regional tournament Wednesday, September 21 at Deer Creek Golf Club with hopes of sending some qualifiers to the state tournament in Gunnison on October 3-4. Spectators are welcome and we encourage you to get our and support the Mustang golfers!
