Taking CA's Athletic Program to the Next Level

I am pleased to announce that beginning June 1, 2011, Bill Hall will be CA’s next Athletic Director. Bill served seven seasons as Assistant General Manager with the Colorado Mammoth lacrosse team, and has coached at the college and high school levels. Hall is a graduate of Denison University in Ohio, where he was twice an All-American lacrosse player. He coached at Fairfield (CT) University, University of New Hampshire, and Cornell University. Bill received his Master's in Educational Administration from the University of New Hampshire in 1993.

After moving to Colorado to pursue business interests, he became head boys coach at Heritage High School in Littleton. In 2002, Bill was named the Colorado High School Coach of the Year. Prior to becoming the Mammoth’s assistant general manager, Bill served as director of player personnel and player development. He also has provided color analysis for Mammoth games on TV broadcasts for Altitude Sports & Entertainment.

I am thrilled to have someone with Bill’s talent, leadership, and sports experience join our community and to be at the helm of Colorado Academy’s competitive sports and athletics education program. While we offer students an incredible competitive opportunity now, with 16 CHSAA-sanctioned varsity sports, a variety of individual and team opportunities, and daily physical education, I believe Bill has the energy and vision to take our program to a new level.

Bill’s dynamic personality will be effective in helping CA recruit and retain quality student-athletes. Lastly, his extensive business experience will make him effective at helping us achieve long-term strategic goals related to facilities and programs, as well as marketing our program. Bill’s personal involvement in independent schools as a teacher, coach, and parent grounds him and enables him to understand and appreciate the value of the work that we do at Colorado Academy. Bill has experience in the Denver community, but he also brings a national perspective which will help us grow our program. For our students looking to play at the college level, Bill will be a tremendous resource.

Through an extensive interview process with faculty, board members, and alumni, parent, and student representatives, he made a strong impression. One of the students who met the candidates said this about Bill:

"Bill Hall is the ideal candidate for athletic director. He is highly qualified and highly capable of running the CA athletic program. He was a college coach (Cornell, Fairfield and University of New Hampshire) and Assistant General Manager of the Mammoth. What is most compelling about Mr. Hall, however, is his deep love and respect for our community. He sees the CA community as a family and loves the opportunities we have. He was absolutely delighted by our "teenage banter" and has a deep respect for what the students do. He will not make students choose between fine arts and academics; he encourages them to do both! He wants to include as many students as he can, while still fielding a winning team. … He has brilliant people-skills; he shows concern for coaches, students, and even faculty from the academic and athletic departments. Of course, any athletic director should be able to show success on the field. He will encourage students to play more than a single sport, spreading talent to other teams. He will make sure each team gets equal treatment. He has been in the world of sports, in a high position, for years. He knows how to make teams win, but in a way that does not disrupt the delicate balance among student's academic, artistic, or athletic work.”

Bill captures his own philosophy in just two thoughts: “work hard and enjoy every day.” He says, “When students develop a strong and healthy work ethic in academics, athletics and fine arts, they are able to draw upon positive experiences that then enable them to progressively challenge themselves and grow. I believe success is attained through attention to detail, rigorous effort, and excelling to be the best.”

I look forward to working with Bill and to introducing him to the entirety of our CA community.
