Happy Holidays

Mike Davis
It's hard to believe that we are nearly at our December Break. The first half of the year has just flown by.  As I reflect on all that has happened since we started the school year, I am overwhelmed with feelings of gratitude and happiness.

I am so impressed by our students and their work, from their work ethic to the way they work to give back to the community.  As I roam the halls, I am constantly amazed at the academic excellence of our students and faculty. I love to see the interactions between teachers and students as they think about big issues in class.

Also, the role of the arts is so amazing at CA and something I value deeply.  From outstanding dramatic performances to awesome displays of musical talent and visual artistry, I am blown away by the creative spirit of this school.

On the athletic fields and courts, we have seen our athletes "dig deep" in those big games.  We see them push themselves and their teammates in great ways.  I have seen coaches get the best out of their players and serve as wonderful role models for how one faces adversity.

I also value my interactions with our school families. We have parents who have made a significant investment in their child's future by choosing CA.  Our families are so supportive of our educational goals and, as a teacher, I appreciate being in such a school. We are truly a "thriving school family."  Of course, every year is not without its challenges.  I look back and miss our late friend, Sean Smith.  But even in our times of loss, this school family pulls together, and it is inspiring.

I hope that everyone has a fun-filled and safe holiday season. This is a time in which all of us need to appreciate our families and simply spend quality time with one another.  For students, it is okay to put the homework aside.  You all work so hard, and it is important to take time to enjoy life.  (I would encourage you to read a book for fun, however!)

Thursday night, December 16, is the Lower School Holiday Program, and it demonstrates some of the many strengths of our arts program.  There will be some amazing talent on display.   And, it is another signature community-building event that I love both as a parent and teacher. I hope to see you there.

Happy Holidays to you all!
