Highest Win Yet: Men’s Tennis Takes 3rd Place State Title

CA’s Varsity Men’s Tennis Team, led by captains and seniors Thomas Sisk, Matt Greene and Cody Behan, had its strongest finish in the history of CA tennis by winning third place overall in the State Tennis Championships in mid-October. Competing at the state meet at City Park in Pueblo, Colorado, top finishers include Matt Greene taking 2nd place at the #3 Singles position, Peter Sisk and Ian Welty placing 2nd in the #1 Doubles position, Jesse Ruder-Hook placing 3rd in the #2 Singles position and Robert Hendry and Zach Turner placing 4th in the #4 Doubles position.

Under the leadership of Coach Brian Singer, the team breezed through the Regional Playoff Tournament hosted at CA earlier in October. The team did not lose a set in the eight-team tournament and qualified all eleven players for the state match. During the regular season, the boys finished 10-2, highlighted by a 5-2 victory over Kent’s Varsity I team, another first for CA. They also had victories over Denver East, Mullen, and Steamboat Springs. Their only losses came to 5A Chatfield and the #1 ranked team in 4A, Cheyenne Mountain.

“This team should be proud of their accomplishments,” said CA Athletic Director Paul Maes. “Congratulations to all the players and coaches on an outstanding season, and yet another record-breaking year for CA,” he said. The team’s third place finish was higher than last year fifth place finish, then best-ever for a CA men’s tennis team.
