Faculty and Staff Heroes

By Angie Crabtree
Dear Lower School Families,

Faculty and Staff Heroes
Thank you for your patience and support as we navigated the multiple weather conditions on Wednesday, May 10. I appreciate everyone being so supportive of our delayed dismissal protocol.

I want to give a huge round of applause to our Lower School Faculty and Staff. In situations like Wednesday, they all jump into action as they create comfort and safety for their students, and they all assume leadership roles to do whatever is asked of them.

As we close out the next 10 days of school, please join me in sending notes of gratitude and kindness to our LS Faculty and Staff. I feel honored to work alongside them each day. They were true heroes on Wednesday!

Lower School Snack Update
We are continuing our research and feedback relating to Lower School snack. (See May 5 letter for information.) We have a survey where parents may offer their feedback. It will be available for parents beginning today, through Friday, May 19.

Summer Packets for Pre-K–Grade 4
Summer work packets will be sent home with current students on Monday, May 22. New families will receive their summer work packets in the mail.

Field Day & Giant Relay Day: May 19 Reminders
During our Field Day activities, faculty and staff will escort students from station to station. In each station, students will find a fun event ranging from traditional games to wacky games of some sort. There will be no points system or ribbons of any kind awarded. Everyone will be challenged to enjoy the event and do their personal best. There will be a rest station and water stations set up so that the children will remain hydrated. We will look forward to your return to this fun day in 2023!

Below is a list of guidelines to follow:
  • Send your child to school with sunscreen applied.
  • There will be several hydration stations set up around campus. Your child should also bring their water bottle to school for lunch.
  • Show your Mustang Spirit! Bring a hat in case it is super sunny!
  • Tennis shoes are required, as several running events will take place.
Parents are invited to join us for the Lower School Field Day activities from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Parking for parents will be available in the Temporary Lot (past the Welcome Center on the left), along the North Road, in the Lower School Circle, and near Operations (at the back of campus). If you join us for this time period, we ask that parents meet classes at stations on the fields (parents should not come to the classrooms).
  • Pre-K, Kindergarten, First Grade, Second Grade: located on Firman Field
  • Third Grade, Fourth Grade, Fifth Grade: located on Simms Field
  • The Grades 3-5 location has been changed from the original location, due to a road construction issue. For the safety of our students, we are moving this group to Simms.

Please NOTE:
*Firman Field is located as you enter campus, between Welborn House and Pierce Street.
*Simms Field is located at the back of campus via the North Road, near Operations and Pre-K.

The classroom teachers will lead each group through the station activities. We encourage parents to cheer for and encourage all students during these events. The Fifth Grade students have organized and will lead a Carnival on the Lower School playground for Pre-K through Fourth Grade in the afternoon.

Parents may depart at 11:30 a.m. as we end our Field Day events as a Lower School. If you elect to take your child with you at that time, please follow these dismissal guidelines:
  1. Notify the classroom teacher that you are taking the student with you.
  2. Sign out in the Lower School Office with Ms. Tafel.
The Lower School Field Day events, lunch, and a little down time are scheduled from 8:10 a.m.-1:00 p.m. From 1:00-3:30 p.m., the Fifth Grade will host a carnival, we will have an opportunity to see a few Middle School events, and we will enjoy the Giant Relay Race across the campus.

Fifth Graders are leading and sponsoring the carnival beginning at 1:00 p.m. We ask that Fifth Graders remain at school for the day. Lower School dismisses at the regularly scheduled time: 3:30 p.m.

We are looking forward to the next fun-filled days of school!
Angie
