ThinkingLAB Workshop & Sports Communication Reminder

By Bill Wolf-Tinsman
Wow, it was cold this week! We stayed in the first couple of days when it was sub-zero and then got back outside to have fun during our daily break.

I would like to put our next Parent Association meeting on your radar. This is a ThinkingLAB presentation, which means that it is intended to give parents insight into some of our teaching practices that are designed to help students become critical thinkers, collaborators, and problem solvers. This year we are focusing on the writing process. The workshop is limited to 18 parents and is “hands-on.” Should you like to attend, please RSVP here.

ThinkingLAB Workshop - From Thought to Paper: Encouraging Young Writers
  • Date: Thursday, February 23
  • Time: 9:00–10:15 a.m.
  • Location: Sadler Room of the Campus Center
  • RSVP: Here
Each year the Middle School offers a window into our efforts to help students learn to think critically and problem-solve. This year’s focus is Grade 8 English and helping students become insightful and purposeful writers. This is a hands-on workshop for 18 people, so please come prepared to have some fun with Eric Augustin and Olivia Wall, our Grade 8 English team.

Occasional Game Cancellations on Short Notice:
Unquestionably, it is frustrating to have a game canceled on short notice. This situation often leads to a “scramble” to put into place a new pick-up plan, etc., etc. On our end, the P.E. Department does all that we can to ensure that all games that are scheduled do take place; unfortunately, we are NOT in control of all of the variables.

Sometimes games must be canceled on short notice because of the weather, because a school cancels on us at the last second, or because referees fail to arrive. In all cases, we have two priorities:
  1. Making sure our students are safe until parents can pick them up, and
  2. Communicating as swiftly as possible with parents so that you can make new arrangements.
When a cancellation happens, parents are notified via email. Parents who previously signed up on the website to receive a text message will also get this same information via text, as well. If you'd like to sign up for text notifications, follow these instructions:
  • Log in to the CA website
  • Click on your name in the top-right corner
  • Select Settings
  • From the Left navigation box, choose Notifications
  • Check the Game Changed box in the Text column
Coaches will supervise students until the end of the regular school day and then, if necessary, students may stay in the supervised gym area until parents arrive.

If a student does need to stay at school for a later than 3:30 p.m. pick-up, we ask that this information and the timing of pick-up be arranged with either the team’s coach or with Elizabeth Drazdowski, the Middle School Athletic Director. Draz can be reached at elizabeth.drazdowski@coloradoacademy.org or 303-914-2564.

If you have any questions, or if I can be of service, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best,
Bill
