Robotics, MesoAmerican Civilization Museum, Parenting Discussion, more

By Bill Wolf-Tinsman
All,

Thanks to all who joined us yesterday for our Parent Association meeting featuring Morgan Beidleman.  She shared a number of insights into how best to support students to develop learning habits for long-term success.  (I will post a recording of the session with slides next week.)  In addition, the PA shared about a number of fun events that are coming our way.  Then during my Q&A, I encouraged parents to take a “growth” approach to progress made during the first term. The key is for young people to learn and grow a little bit each day, each week, each month, and each trimester.  I also reminded our group that every student started this week with a fresh start and an initial score of 100%.

Three Highlights:

Robotics:  The MS Robotics Team had their competition last Saturday.  Mr. Luong, their coach, complimented all of the students for their hard work. Particular congratulations go to The Cook Kidz (Brielle, Cameron, Eildon, Josh, Mike, MJ) for placing 2nd in Core Values and Alpha Elite (Daven, Luka, Ollie, Roman, Wyatt) for placing 2nd in Research Project. Build-a-Bot (Ethan, Oscar, Rahul, Zuri) and Ecstatic Engineers (Ali, Annika, Jill, Mason, Owen) did more than outstanding presentations and robot performances. Well done to all.

MesoAmerican Civilization Museum: Ms. Estacio’s Core class hosted a MesoAmerican Museum on Thursday. What students learned this Trimester about a variety of civilizations was showcased for classmates who came and enjoyed their time in the “museum.”

Parenting Discussion Group:  Also, just a reminder, if you have not yet RSVP'd, that Abby Johnson is offering a Parenting Discussion Group. Details are below.

I hope everyone has a chance during the Thanksgiving Break to slow down just a little bit and enjoy family and friends. If you have any questions or if I can be helpful in any way, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best,
Bill

Parenting Discussion Group Facilitated by Abby Johnson:

Thank you to those of you who were able to join us on October 25 at our SPEAK event, where we discussed fostering independence in Middle School students. It was wonderful bringing so many of you together where we could share ideas, strategies, and tips that have been working in your homes. Along with that, it was a safe place to express concerns, ask questions, and gather insight from others.

As mentioned at the event, I would like to invite you to a parent coffee where we can continue the conversation on relationships with your Middle School students and any other topics you feel are important to discuss. This will be a discussion, not a presentation. Topics will be generated by the group at each meeting. Please RSVP and join me on December 2, 2022.

First Meeting:
Date: Friday, December 2
Time: 9:00 a.m.
Location: Smith Center Alumni Conference Room
