Veterans Day programming at the US

By Max Delgado
Today is Veterans Day, when our nation takes a moment to collectively honor the sacrifices made by those who’ve served in our military. In a message earlier this week, we encouraged our students to take a moment to commemorate anyone they knew who had served or to engage in some other practice of reflection or appreciation.

As we have done in the past, CA will also make available special programming today for students who want to learn more about the sacrifices of those who have or currently serve in the military.

This programming was organized by Sophomore Leah Blake, and the Alumni Association and will feature these alumni guests who will discuss their experiences serving in the U.S. Military.

  • Colin Gumm ’94 will talk about his tours of duty in Kosovo and Iraq.
  • Annelise Agelopoulos ’22, home on break from the USMA, will speak about her experiences since graduating from CA.
  • Zooming in from Germany will be Maggie Sherrill Nicklas ’12, a USAFA grad and F-16 fighter pilot.
CA is also fortunate to have two current CA families who have taken the time to learn about an individual veteran’s experience, which we’d like to share with the community.
  • Senior Noah Hicks interviewed his neighbor, a West Point grad, about the biggest regret of his military career. You can watch his work here.
  • Nina Corcoran Newcomb, mother of Sophomore Max Newcomb, and their family are actively trying to recover the remains of their great-great uncle, who went missing in action at the WWII Battle of Anzio in Italy. While this journey was originally aired to commemorate Memorial Day here, it offers us a poignant reminder on Veterans day as well.
While Veterans Day can be a solemn holiday, for many it offers a deep expression of their values and gratitude. We hope you will take a moment to commemorate this day in a way that feels right.
