Middle School Social tonight!

By Bill Wolf-Tinsman
We had a fun Town Meeting on Thursday, hosted by the student-run Speakers Club. Students listened to poetry and learned about outdoor opportunities, global travel destinations, and much more.

It is a busy next week or so:

Middle School Social:  Tonight the Middle School is hosting its first “social” in the Dining Hall from 7:00-9:00 p.m. The students chose Halloween as the theme. The social is an opportunity for the students to come together to have fun and build community. There is a DJ (Mr. Luong!), line dances, games, raffles, and a movie in a separate room. There is a $5 entry fee, which includes a raffle ticket. (Most of the proceeds after social costs will go to charity.) Additional raffle tickets can also be purchased. We know that students are at different developmental stages and want to have enough variety in the activities offered so that everyone can have fun.

It is a long day for teachers, so we are grateful when you arrive promptly at 9:00 p.m. for pick-up. Please come to the Dining Hall, as it is dark out, and we want to be sure every student is accompanied by an adult. Finally, we try to be clear with the students that this is not a “bring a date” event. Middle School is a great time for friendships. There will be plenty of time for other sorts of relationships down the road. Should be fun.

Parent Association Meeting:  On Tuesday, October 25, at 9:45 a.m., please join us for a Middle School Parent Association meeting in the Choir Room of Schotters Music Center. Abby Johnson, our Middle School Counselor, is our featured speaker. Her topic is how to foster independence in middle school-aged children.  I have placed the full description below. RSVP Now.

Halloween costumes optional on October 31: On October 31, students may wear appropriate Halloween costumes to school if they would like to. We ask that costumes be appropriate to school (thoughtful, not hurtful; weapon free; that kind of thing). Similarly, costumes must also allow students to continue to do school work, as we will have a regular class schedule on that day. Finally, we ask that costumes are put together before coming to school. We reminded students today that glitter and make-up should not be used at school as it can be VERY messy in the bathrooms.

If you have any questions, or if I can be helpful in any way, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best,
Bill
