LS Back-to-School Night, Coffees, more

By Angie Crabtree
Dear Lower School Families,

We had a wonderful week of learning and fun at the Lower School!

Back-to-School Night
The Lower School Faculty and I are excited to welcome you to the 2022 Back-to-School Night on Thursday, September 15. The program includes a presentation from Dr. Mike Davis and me at 6:00 p.m. in the Leach Center for the Performing Arts. At 6:30 p.m., we will begin classroom presentations. Please be sure to attend the 6:00 p.m. session, so that you know the specific locations for the classroom presentations.

Lower School Coffee with Principal Angie Crabtree and Counselor Brooke Hamman
Join us to discuss the new school year. Mrs. Hamman will also provide a presentation about Emotional Regulation and how to support your child. Emotional Regulation is the ability to exert control over one’s own emotional state.

There are two available times to attend. Please join us at either time:
  • Monday, September 19, 2:15–3:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, September 20, 8:30–9:45 a.m.
Reserve your space using the link on this flyer: Lower School Coffee Flyer

Speech and language assessments
The Lower School provides a speech and language screening for each Pre-K and Kindergarten student as we begin the year. We also provide a speech and language screening for students in Grades 1-5 by referral from the classroom teacher. The screening includes articulation, speech clarity, language expression, and social communication.

The screening will be administered by Deb Fenton, a licensed speech and language specialist who provides literacy support at CA. The classroom teacher will provide you with results at the October conference if any specific area was noted as an area of concern or if further exploration is suggested with an outside speech and language therapist.

Dismissal reminders
As we provide dismissal each day at the Lower School Circle, the North Road, and the Bus Lane, the faculty, staff, and I want to remind you that a “walk-up pick-up” is not approved for the Lower School. This does not support the flow of dismissal for the Lower School. If you have an extenuating circumstance and need to pick up your child without going through the car line, please contact Angie Crabtree one day prior to discuss your family situation. Our goal is to provide a safe and efficient dismissal process for everyone—students, faculty, staff, and drivers.

Have a wonderful weekend—enjoy the cooler weather!
